Case Study - Wodonga Assisted Living Cluster
People with disability want to lead independent and fulfilling lives but to achieve this, they often require support in their living arrangements. Currently too many young people with disability have to live in retirement villages and nursing homes due to lacking appropriate accommodation.
Together with National Disability Living Solutions, one of Australia's leading disability housing providers, Tektum has developed a series of homes for their 'Me, My Home, My Community Project' in Wodonga. This is a new cluster of single bedroom units designed to accommodate 5 young men with intellectual disability and occasionally challenging behaviours. Accessible bathrooms; attention to transition from vertical to horizontal surfaces; elimination of even the smallest trip hazard; and the use of colour and integrated landscape will all combine to make this a safe and exceptionally pleasant environment for its residents. This pilot project was initiated by the federal Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund and funded by the Victorian Government. |
